Mattapan Community Health Center
Art Placements: 2007, 2012
Mattapan Community Health Center’s mission is to improve the quality of life for residents of Mattapan and surrounding communities by providing comprehensive, accessible, affordable, and culturally appropriate health care services. The Mattapan neighborhood has some of the most serious health problems in Boston and MCHC receives 26,000 visits from over 7,000 people each year. Patients are mostly Black/African American, including a large number of Caribbean immigrants. In September 2010, MCHC broke ground on a stunning new facility in Mattapan Square. The new building will house services for clients of all ages, including primary care, dental, OB-GYN, preventive health care and social services. All donated art hangs in this new facility’s waiting rooms, reception areas, and in hallways in the mammography, dental, mental health, and women infants and children (WIC) departments. Art donations will play a role in humanizing the healthcare experience for MCHC patients, families, and caregivers.
