The MassBay Community College mission is to foster
educational excellence and student success, prepare students for local and
global citizenship, anticipate and respond to the needs of surrounding
communities, and contribute to evolving regional economic development. The
Wellesly-based school was chartered in 1961. Degree and certificate programs
are offered in the health sciences, humanities, science, technology,
engineering, and math, social science, and transportation and energy.
The Art Connection approached MassBay in May to encourage
them to apply for an artwork placement in honor of Krystle Campbell, class of
2005, who was killed in the Boston Marathon bombings. Administrative staff at
MassBay feels “the presence of art will invite reflection, contemplation, and
inspired conversation --all things an institution of higher education should
strive to cultivate.” A total of 78 artworks and sculptures have now been installed in the library, atrium, and on all
three floors of the college in hallways, seating areas, and entrances.
