Springhouse, Inc.
Springhouse is a community with three levels of care for seniors: independent living, assisted living, and special care for residents with memory loss. Their building in Jamaica Plain is in process of being renovated and donated artwork will be displayed in the entrance areas, elevator lobbies, hallways, and function rooms to enhance the overall appearance of these areas and provide a focal point for resident viewing. Artwork is essential for providing a warm environment and can serve as something with which to connect, especially for the residents experiencing memory loss. It also will engage the residents and offer an opportunity for socializations and discussion.

Wayside Youth and Family Support Network
Art Placements: 2009
Wayside Youth & Family is committed to serving youth and families in Eastern and Central Massachusetts communities by providing counseling, family support, residential and educational services. Wayside's new Campus serves youth ages 12 to 18 who suffer from significant mental health, substance abuse, and/or behavioral difficulties, often as a result of family abuse, neglect or trauma. Youth who both temporarily live and go to school at the campus, along with their families, will directly benefit from artwork displayed at the new Campus. Youth will feel respected by having original pieces of artwork in their surroundings. Donated art will hang in the entry, hallways, meeting rooms, and community spaces to help the Campus not give the feeling of an institution, but rather create a comfortable and home-like environment. The artwork will greatly lend to creating this welcoming atmosphere for both youth and their families. In addition, youth affected by trauma often find strength through artistic expression, allowing them a safe way to understand and be themselves. Being surrounded by the original artwork of others can inspire their own creative forms of expression. It is Wayside’s goal for artwork in the new Campus to reflect the diversity of the clients and to give them hope for the places they will go in the future.

The Work Place
Art Placements: 2008
The Work Place is dedicated to fostering economic growth in the City of Boston by providing comprehensive and easily accessible employment and career services to the unemployed. They help individuals find job openings, assess their skill levels and interests, and enter education and training programs. Donated art will hang in the entry, meeting rooms, and hallways to help change the sterile (and sometimes intimidating) environment into one that is more friendly and interesting. When individuals who already feel down know they are expected to learn things which they believe may be too difficult, they often fear exposing themselves to the strangers who sit behind the desks. Donated artwork will help them connect to visual art and start a new dialogue between consumers and providers – which will hopefully lead to relaxation, communication, and further engagement.
