It is the mission of Whittier Street Health Center to provide high quality, reliable and accessible primary health care and support services for diverse populations to promote wellness and eliminate health and social disparities. Whittier's patients are primarily low-income and represent a wide variety of cultures, backgrounds and ethnicities. Whittier serves as one of two Refugee Health Assessment sites in Boston with patients hailing from 20 different countries. Part of Whittier's cultural competency plan for its new building, located on Tremont Street in Roxbury, involves integrating culturally appropriate artwork and signage into the reception and program areas to welcome and engage our diverse patient population. Artwork has been installed in the reception areas of the following units: behavioral health, dental, physical therapy, OB/GYN, WIC, family medicine, and adult medicine as well as in the Cancer Center and Cancer Education Resource Room.
